Physician Shortage and Access to Primary Care

More than 2.3 million Ontarians do not have a family doctor. OCFP is calling for immediate government action to invest in primary care capacity and remove barriers to practice.

  • Immediately increase training positions for family medicine residents in Ontario
  • Expand and streamline pathways for international medical graduates to enter Ontario practice

Administrative Burden Reduction

Unnecessary paperwork and documentation requirements consume an estimated 2–3 hours of physician time per day. OCFP is advocating for systemic changes that restore that time to patient care.

OCFP recommends

  • Mandate standardized prior authorization processes across Ontario insurers and programs
  • Invest in interoperable digital infrastructure to eliminate duplicate data entry
