2024–2029 Strategic Plan

Vision: Thriving family physicians in a healthy Ontario. Our 5-year strategic plan sets out a clear pathway to relieve burnout, reform primary care, and support over 18,000 family doctors across Ontario.

Our Four Strategic Pillars

Pillar 1

Thriving Family Physicians

  • Expand 1-on-1 Peer Connect networks for mental health and addictions.
  • Deliver practical EMR optimization and administrative efficiency tools.
  • Support new graduates transitioning into independent Ontario practice.
Pillar 2

System Reform & Admin Relief

  • Champion province-wide centralized specialist referral technology.
  • Expand government investment in AI scribes and virtual practice assistants.
Pillar 3

Access to Primary Care Teams

Ensure every Ontarian has access to a family physician working alongside interprofessional healthcare teams.

  • Expand interprofessional team funding for all family practices in Ontario.
  • Attract and retain new family medicine residents in Ontario communities.
  • Address primary care deserts in Northern and underserved rural regions.
Pillar 4

  • Elevate physician leadership through the OCFP Leadership Academy.
  • Celebrate physician excellence through annual peer-nominated awards.
