Family Doctors:_Driving Innovation in Health Care _

Family doctors are driving innovation in health care, improving care today and shaping what comes next.

This #WorldFamilyDoctorDay, we celebrate the impact family doctors have across Ontario and the innovation they bring to care every day.

Across Ontario, family doctors are driving innovation in different ways.

Reimagining Care for Patients

Family doctors are reimagining care every day, using new approaches and tools to better support patient needs.

Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe , a family doctor focused on women’s health, is reimagining care by using new approaches and tools to better support and educate patients.

Driving Innovative Solutions to System Challenges

Family doctors are improving access, removing barriers, and redesigning how care works.

Dr. Andrew Pinto and Dr. Archna Gupta , through their work at the Upstream Lab, are addressing social determinants of health and driving solutions that improve access and reduce barriers for patients.

Building the Future of Care

Family doctors are building the future of care by mentoring and inspiring the next generation to lead and innovate.

Dr. Joyce Cheung is helping build the future of care by supporting new models of practice, including locum work, that improve flexibility and sustainability for family doctors. Dr. Basel Bari, who advanced cardiovascular disease research and care for underserved communities, has mentored Dr. Aleem Hussain to continue delivering compassionate, patient-centered family medicine.

Supporting Innovation in Family Medicine

The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) represents more than 18,000 family doctors and medical students caring for Ontarians across the health care system, from community clinics to hospitals, emergency departments, urgent care centres, and more.

The OCFP supports this work by enabling digital innovation, supporting family doctors through change, and preparing the next generation of family doctors.

Since it’s inception in 2010 by The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), World Family Doctor Day (WFDD) has become an annual celebration that recognizes the important role and contributions of family doctors.
