Biography
Diana R Ahmed is a family physician and part-time hospitalist who has practiced for over twenty years in the downtown Hamilton and Brantford region. Her work has mostly focused on working with marginalized populations including people living in poverty, immigrants and refugees, people who experience homelessness and substance use disorders.
She is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the department of Family Medicine at McMaster University where she has held several leadership roles for the undergraduate medical program including “Domain Planner for Health Equity & the Determinants of Health” as well as her current role as “Director of Service Learning”. During her time at McMaster she co-wrote the first “Trauma-Informed Care” teaching module for the medical school curriculum, one of the first in Canada to introduce this important topic to medical students.
In her spare time she enjoys playing the piano, practicing yoga, spending time outdoors and any other activity that will help regulate her nervous system.

Biography
Since obtaining his certification from the Canadian Association of Addiction Medicine in 2013, Dr. Adam Newman has been in private practice focused exclusively on addiction medicine and harm reduction.
Dr. Newman is the Most Responsible Physician for Opioid Dependent infants rooming-in with their mothers at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), the founding board chair of the Kingston House of Recovery for Women and Children, and a member of the Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation Team (START). He also holds an adjunct assistant professorship in Family Medicine at Queen’s University, with cross appointments to Psychiatry and Paediatrics.
He lectures colleagues, medical students and postgraduate medical trainees, and regularly supervises residents during clinical electives, in addiction medicine. He also acts as the supervising Addiction Physician for nurses, physicians, and allied health practitioners who are returning to work under a monitoring contract after being absent because of a substance use disorder.
Before 2013, he practiced full-scope medicine in Sioux Lookout and Kingston for 20 years.
Dr. Newman is married with two adult children.

Biography
Dr. Alison Arnot graduated from the family practice residency program at the Toronto Western Hospital in 1984.
She has been in group practice in Mississauga, providing comprehensive care, for 21 years. In 1997, she joined the interdisciplinary team at the Addiction & Concurrent Disorders Centre at the Credit Valley Hospital. She left her group practice to become the medical director of the University of Toronto Mississauga Health & Counselling Centre in 2009.
Dr. Arnot transitioned to community practice in 2017 to provide continuity of care to the patients she had looked after while working at the since-defunded day treatment program at the addiction treatment centre.
She is interested in mindfulness, yoga and being in nature, and loves Zumba. Dr. Arnot also recently joined a physician’s choir.
Communities Served
Dr. Arnot mostly treats adults who struggle with mental health and substance use, such as alcohol, cannabis, crystal meth and tobacco. Most of her patients have histories of childhood adversity, and all have been wounded in relationships. She does not provide opiate substitution therapy.
