Mainpro+ serves three key functions:

Mainpro+ is a National College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) program designed to support and promote family physicians’ continuing professional development (CPD).

What is the purpose of Mainpro+

Mainpro+ serves three key functions:

• To ensure the delivery of high-quality, ethical CPD programming through a rigorous peer-review certification process.

What are the credit cycle dates?

The Mainpro+ credit cycle runs July 1st – June 30th.

What happens if I do not complete my CPD requirements by the end of my five-year cycle?

There is a six-week grace period following the cycle end date during which active members can report their outstanding credits for activities they have already completed. If credit requirements are still not met by the end of the six-week grace period, you will be placed in a two-year remedial cycle.

I participated in an OCFP activity where the Mainpro+ credits were automatically entered into my Mainpro+ account (direct credit entry). Why don’t I see those credits in my cycle totals?

Direct credit entry activities will be automatically applied to your account within 4-8 weeks of the session.

Please note that the impact assessment is no longer mandatory and therefore, all direct credit entry activities are applied directly to the member’s account and no longer go to the holding area.

I am a resident. Should I use Mainpro+?

Mainpro+ is optional for Resident members; however, the CFPC encourages you to report all continuing professional development (CPD) activities completed outside of your residency training program curriculum (e.g., journal clubs, conferences, workshops, advanced life-support training). Participating in Mainpro+ as a resident helps ease your transition from Resident to Active membership.

As a bonus, up to 40 certified credits earned and reported during your residency cycle will be carried forward to your first active Mainpro+ cycle automatically.

Should I keep my certificate of completion or proof of participation?

Yes, keep it for a minimum of six years, in case you are selected for a random audit. CFPC recommends keeping original confirmation of attendance and uploading a copy to Mainpro+ when entering your activity.

I am on a Scientific Planning Committee, can I claim Mainpro+ credits?

Yes, this would be considered an eligible Mainpro+ activity and would be eligible as a non-certified activity (credits). Non-certified credits are for activities that have not been formally reviewed by the College but comply with the College’s definition of CPD, are non-promotional in nature, and provide valuable professional learning opportunities. Credits are dependent on every hour of time involved in committee meetings. There is no certificate required for proof of participation. There is not a maximum you can claim.

Additional MainPro+ certified credits can be earned by completing a Linking Learning exercise. By completing a self-administered and semi-structured Linking Learning exercise, members are eligible to earn up to five (5) additional MainPro+ Certified credits per exercise.

What types of activities are in the Assessment category?

Assessment activities allow Mainpro+ participants to earn credits for activities that stimulate learning through the analysis of data and the provision of feedback. For example, completing a practice audit, participating in a quality assurance program, or participating as an examiner for CFPC exams would also count toward your certified credits. Many physicians engage in these activities on a regular basis. For more details and examples of certified, assessment and non-certified activities use the MainPro+ Activity Grid

My practice is unique. How can I claim credit for all the different activities I do?

With the CFPC Linking Learning program (external website) you can earn Mainpro+ certified credits by reflecting on many types of learning activities. Linking Learning exercises allow you to reflect on a recent experience or activity and document how it will affect your practice.

Earn five certified credits for each completed Linking Learning (external website) exercise. These exercises are online, they can be completed over multiple sessions, and there is no limit to how many you can do in each cycle.
