About the program

This self-learning program is designed for family physicians seeking to enhance their skills in teaching, mentoring and personal development.

Participants will learn how to lead learner-centered discussions and support adult learners effectively through coaching and facilitation techniques. The program also features topics on self-care for family physicians, including time management, tools for self-reflection, facilitating transitional meditation and supporting personal resilience and well-being in clinical practice.

Introduction to Facilitating Transitional Meditation

Watch as Dr. Samantha Lavitt explores various forms of meditation and shares practical strategies for facilitating each type. This session will address common perceptions around “success” and “failure” in meditation, and emphasize the importance of adapting and modifying practices to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all participants.

Group Facilitation

Learn about facilitating group discussions and creating safety in this two-part session led by Dr. Joan Chan:

Following active participation, participants will be able to:

  1. Explore and apply ways to self-assess your own wellness and respond in a self-compassionate, respectful way. You need to be able to prioritize and model your personal wellness and address barriers to your own wellness in a skillful way.
  2. Use provided tools and resources to facilitate and support learner-focused conversations about unique ways to cultivate wellness and reduce burnout in the learner’s practice.
  3. Increase your skillfulness with mentoring and coaching adult learners.
  4. Effectively identify strategies and resources that help learners to navigate clinical complexity and strengthen their adaptive expertise.
  5. Facilitate a small-group session for family physicians focused on adaptive expertise in a way that promotes safeness and respect for all involved.
